FINAL SPEAKING TEST GUIDELINES

ENGLISH CONVERSATION FINAL SPEAKING TEST GUIDELINES

FORMAT: Your speaking test will be an interview with the teacher. It will be a maximum of 5 minutes long, consisting of material covered in class and in the Smart Choice book from Units 6-10. This includes vocabulary and grammar. You will NOT be tested on the EXTRA episodes.

QUESTIONS: You will be asked 5 MAIN questions; one from each unit. For each question, you must be able to understand the questions and speak with good pronunciation, fluency, and use vocabulary and grammar from the book. One question from each unit will be randomly chosen. Prepare something for each question. You don’t know which one will be asked!

***IMPORTANT***
Show me you can use grammar from ALL units in Smart Choice! It’s great if you can mix all the grammar from this semester together! Remember to give me 3 POINTS for each question!



Unit Six:
1. I have a huge test next week. What should I do?
2. It’s my mother’s birthday tomorrow. What should I do?
3. I’m stressed out and keep getting sick. What should I do?
4. I just graduated from university and I need a job….NOW! What should I do?
5. I feel depressed all the time. What should I do?
6. I don’t feel safe walking home alone after dark. What should I do?


Unit Seven: Use too/enough/ not enough/too much/ too many
1. Talk about a restaurant you visited but didn’t like.
2. Talk about a movie that disappointed you.
3. Talk about a bad day or a bad situation you were in
4. Talk about the environment.
5. What bad shopping habits do you have?
6. Do you prefer to go shopping alone or with other people?


Unit Eight: ex.) A true friend is someone who will always help you.
1. Describe your ideal man/woman
2. Describe a true friend.
3. Describe a good teacher.
4. Describe your ideal restaurant
5. Describe your ideal movie.
6. Describe your perfect day


Unit Nine:
1. Have you ever been injured? What happened?
2. Have you ever witnessed (seen) an accident/crime? What happened?
3. What were you doing yesterday evening? What happened?
4. What’s your most embarrassing moment? What happened?
5. Have you ever seen or met a famous person? What happened?
6. Have you ever been robbed? What happened?


Unit Ten: Using MIGHT BE , COULD BE , MAY BE , CAN’T BE, MUST BE choose 3 of these situations to talk about.

Ex. You’re in the desert but you’re cold. Possible answers: It might be nighttime. You might be in a refrigerator. It may be a trick. It can’t be true! It must be a dream.


1. You see a strange light in the sky. What is it?
2. Many people are giving you flowers. Why?
3. Your friend is getting fatter and fatter. Why?
4. An animal licks your face. It has fur, paws, spots, and claws. What could it be?
5. You see a woman in expensive clothes getting out of a new car. She is surrounded by photographers. Talk about her.
6. It’s cold and snowing outside. You see lots of different animals. Where are you?

SCORING:

CONTENT: You answered all the questions asked, using 3 or more different ideas. This is worth 50% of the exam.
COMPREHENSION, GRAMMAR, VOCABULARY, PRONUNCIATION AND FLUENCY: You showed me that you have used ideas and grammar from the “Smart Choice 2” textbook and in-class lessons. This is also worth 50% of the exam. Scores will be given from 1-10. (1 is poor and 10 is excellent)

1. Comprehension: You understood the questions asked and gave answers that were relevant.

2. Grammar: You made sentences using correct grammar that we covered in class from the textbook.

3. Vocabulary: You used appropriate vocabulary found in the textbook…or new vocabulary you found on your own.

4. Pronunciation: You spoke clearly with correct English pronunciation (no Konglish), and used examples of correct pronunciation covered in class.

5. Fluency: You spoke at a normal pace indicating your comfort level with grammar/vocabulary and pronunciation.
